  • Very Good Traffic Tolerance and Disease Resistance

Nexus is an advanced generation turf-type perennial ryegrass, which has an attractive dark green color with a fine leaf texture and excellent mowing quality.  It combines a superior turf quality and appearance with improved genetic resistance to a wide range of disease and pests that attack perennial ryegrass lawns.  It has a reduction in vertical growth rate coupled with a lower plant crown height and softer leaf tissue which produces less growth and reduced mowing requirements with a superior appearance following turf mowing.  Because of its broad based genetics it can be relied upon to perform outstandingly under a wide range of environmental and geographical conditions and turfgrass management regimes.

Nexus is an attractive dark green and blends well with the newer darker cultivars of other cool season grasses. It has excellent tiller density with fine bladed tillers as well as a greater uniformity of color, texture and growth habit.  It has a broad based genetic resistance to the major ryegrass diseases including Helminthosporium species, dollar spot, red thread, brown patch and crown and stem rusts.  A significant level of natural endophyte provides resistance to many insects that feed on plant leaf and crown tissue including the sod webworm larva, chinch bugs and billbugs.  It will perform outstandingly under severe environmental stresses that weaken and thin out older more susceptible ryegrass varieties.

Nexus’ leaves are fine textured and soft which produces excellent turfgrass mowing quality.  The leaves have a minimum of tough hard-to-mow fibers that tear and shred especially during periods of hot and dry weather that stresses older varieties.  A reduction in plant crown height allows for a lower rate of leaf vertical elongation and subsequently reduced mowing requirements.  The mowing height is best maintained in the 1.0 to 2.0 inch range for perennial home lawns.  It can be mowed lower on greens at heights of 0.125 inch on overseeded winter dormant tropical turfgrass under high management conditions.  Nexus is a versatile grass and will perform well under the diverse applications where perennial ryegrasses are used, including home lawns, parks, athletic fields, roadsides and industrial lawns.

Nexus is adapted to a wide range of soil and moisture conditions.  It tolerates wet acid soil very well.  The best growth will be on fertile neutral pH soils.  The attractive dark green color of Nexus is well maintained under extreme pressures of both summer heat and drought, and winter desiccation and freezing.  Autumn color retention following frost is good, and winter survival is excellent. The general fertilizer recommendation is 0.5 to 0.75 pounds of actual nitrogen per 1000 square feet per month during the growing season.

Nexus germinates very rapidly with excellent seedling vigor, and becomes established into a tightly knit lawn.  Germination is expected in 5 to 7 days depending on temperatures and soil moisture.
